M1 Junction 29 Northbound and Southbound slip roads, and Bridge

NOTIFICATION OF ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS
M1 Junction 29 Northbound and Southbound slip roads, and Bridge

We will be carrying out essential maintenance works to
the existing bridge, and northbound and southbound slip roads on the M1 J29.
During our comprehensive scheme of work, we will:
• Remove vegetation to reduce sign obstruction and to allow future maintenance
access
• Replace lighting columns and existing illumination signs
• Replace traffic signal poles, signal head, cables, ducting, traffic signal cabinet
• Replace existing waterproof system to the bridge and repair bridge joints
• Install additional street lighting to the roads.

Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved road safety.

When will the work take place?
Work is due to start on 3rd January 2023 and is scheduled for completion by End May
2023
Please note that all our planned works are subject to change due to weather
conditions, significant events or unforeseen circumstances.

How will the work affect traffic?
To keep our programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise
disruption to the local community, residents, businesses and road users, we will work
as follows:

Street lighting, signs and traffic signals
• Monday to Friday, 8pm to 6am, Full overnight closures of the slip road, ring
management of the roundabout gyratory and lane closures. Only one slip road
to be closed at any one time.

Waterproofing and bridge joint
• Friday 8pm to Monday 6am, Full weekend closure of the bridge deck. Only
one bridge deck to be closed at one time.
During these full road closures, we will put in place fully signed diversion routes which
have been agreed with the local authority.
Please note that whilst carrying out waterproofing and structural repair work on the
bridge, there will be NO access for any vehicles including emergency services during
that time.

How will the work affect businesses and residents?
We will make sure that access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever
possible. We will also have a dedicated Public Liaison Officer on hand to answer any
questions.

work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.
