Landowners urged to assess tree risk

Local landowners are being urged to be vigilant and check their property for diseased and unstable trees after a busy stretch of the A6 between Cromford and Matlock Bath had to be closed for emergency tree removal.ined a Service of Remembrance which was held on Tuesday at County Hall in Matlock.

We used legal powers to step in and remove more than 100 trees from private land alongside the A6 after a tree came down and hit a car travelling on the road during Storm Claudia last Friday (14 November). It was the third tree to fall on the same plot of land in a matter of a few days.

The road reopened today (Friday 21 November) following work around the clock over five days to remove further trees at risk of falling from the steep bank and reduce the risk to public safety.

Thanks to our contractors for pulling out all the stops to get the road reopened as soon as possible, to local bus operators for working with us to amend services while the closure was in place and to local residents, businesses and the travelling public for bearing with us while this essential safety work was carried out.
