Local Roots – Orchard Tree Planting
Last week a great event took place at the South Street Recreation Ground with children and staff from the Brigg Infant School planting trees all day to form a new nut and fruit orchard “Local Roots”.
The event had been co-ordinated by Katherine (Church Community Woodlands Project Officer) at Bolsover District Council, along with Alison Spencer, head teacher at The Brigg and local Bolsover and SNPC Councillor Andrew Joesbury.
The school also ran a competition to name and design a sign for the new orchard which was won by ‘Jaxon Ward’. Pictured proudly next to his winning sign post design.
There was a great turn out from local parents who came along to help their children with the digging and planting. The staff at The Brigg also joined in the supervision and planting, along with Russ and Keith from Bolsover Street Scene, and our SNPC grounds team members Mark and Zac.
We would also like to thank Nicky Lawley who attended the event on a ‘Volunteer Day’ provided by his employer Amey PLC (National Highways).
