South Normanton Remembrance Sunday 2022
South Normanton Parish Council would like to thank everyone who came along to the Remembrance Parade and Service on Sunday, the 13th of November.
Our village came together to remember and pay tribute to those who paid the highest sacrifice and lost their lives or were wounded in both ‘World Wars’ and all other conflicts since.
This year’s annual parade was led by Councillor Andrew Joesbury and Richard Martin representing Councillor Julian Siddle of Derbyshire County Council. The parade took place from the Market Place to St Michael’s & All Angels Church. A two-minute silence was observed at 11.00am, followed by the traditional laying of poppy wreaths by local dignitaries and representatives of various community groups and organisations. A service of remembrance was given by the Reverend Steven Potter and with readings from members of Churches Together.
The parade then reformed and headed to the Town Park Memorial Garden where Pastor Mark Oldershaw gave a short service along with readings and prayers from members of South Normanton Churches Together. A two-minute was observed and the ‘Last Post and Reveille’ was sounded. This was followed by the further laying of wreaths and wooden crosses at the memorial stones.
After the Memorial Garden service, everyone who’d attended the proceedings was welcomed into the Post Mill Centre for tea, coffee and cake.
The Parish Council would like to thank all residents, community groups and other local parties involved for playing their invaluable part on this very special day of remembrance.
