New School Crossing Patrol

Have you seen our new ‘School Crossing Patrol’ person at the crossing on Market Street and Hamlet Lane? Did they seem familiar? Well, they should as the new role has been taken up by our very own South Normanton Parish Councillor Andrew Joesbury.

Councillor Joesbury started in the job last month, and we dropped by to see how he was getting on in the role of South Normanton’s last remaining ‘Lollipop Man’.

We asked Andrew why he decided to apply for the position. “As a local councillor I’ve had a concern over the Glebe Junior School crossing for some time. School Patrol Crossings seem to be a thing of the past these days, but they still play a vital role in keeping our children safe. My home and work commitments changed in the summer, leaving me free at the time when the crossing is needed, so I thought I would apply and offer to do it. I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love it.” 

Councillor Joesbury also said: “The role lets me interact and engage with local residents in a much different way than in my role of parish and district councillor. It also provides a great way to give back to the community that I live in.
