South Normanton Parish Council Litter Picking Scheme

The Parish Council has initiated a scheme for members of the public to borrow the necessary litter picking equipment and PPE free of charge.

Members of the public can visit the Council Office and borrow a high-viz jacket, litter grabber, ring and bags to carry out localised litter picking.

The scheme was approved and funded by the Full Council after members of the public made enquiries about help with litter picking in their neighbourhood.

Councillor Sue Burnham has led the project from the Parish Council with the help of Assistant Clerk Peter Hallam.

Sue commented: “It’s a shame that this scheme is needed, but we as a Parish Council have had to re-act to the ongoing litter problems encountered. We have employed a Litter Picker full time but there is only so much he and the other employees can do. We have been approached by members of the public, and we feel that by providing this equipment it will help them carry out litter picking in as safe a manner as possible. In addition to offering the equipment, the Parish Council will pick up any full bags and dispose of them responsibly. “
